Reds boss unhappy with defending in 2-2 draw at Fulham

Jurgen Klopp was left "annoyed" by Liverpool's defending in their 2-2 draw at Fulham on Saturday.

The Reds twice came from behind at Craven Cottage, with Fabio Carvalho and Darwin Nunez scoring for the visitors.

But Klopp was unhappy with the way his team defended, particularly in the first half.

Klopp's warning to Chiesa

Klopp's annoyance was particularly evident in his post-match comments about Federico Chiesa, who scored Fulham's second goal.

The Liverpool boss said he was "not happy" with the way his players allowed Chiesa to get into the box and score.

Klopp said: "I'm not happy with the way we defended, especially in the first half. We were too open, we gave away too many chances.

"Fulham played well, but we made it too easy for them.

"We need to be better defensively. We need to be more compact, we need to be more aggressive.

"We need to make it harder for teams to create chances against us.

"That's something we'll work on in training this week.

"We need to be ready for next week's game against Crystal Palace.

"We need to show that we've learned from our mistakes and that we're ready to compete at the highest level.

"We need to show that we're ready to win trophies.

Klopp's warning to his players

Klopp's warning to Chiesa was also a warning to his own players.

The Liverpool boss knows that his team need to improve their defending if they want to challenge for the Premier League title this season.

Klopp said: "I'm not going to make excuses for my players.

"We need to be better. We need to be more consistent.

"We need to show that we're capable of winning the big games.

"We need to show that we're capable of winning trophies.

"We need to show that we're capable of being the best team in the country.
