Jason Kidd Appointed Head Coach
The Dallas Mavericks have named Jason Kidd as their new head coach. Kidd, who was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2018, will enter his first season with the Mavericks. He previously served as an assistant coach for the Philadelphia 76ers.
Rick Carlisle Departs
Kidd replaces Rick Carlisle, who led the Mavericks to their first NBA Championship in 2011. Carlisle coached the Mavericks from 2008 to 2021, guiding them to the playoffs in 10 of his 13 seasons.
Eric Hughes Joins as Assistant Coach
Joining Kidd on the Mavericks' coaching staff is Eric Hughes. Hughes enters his first season with Dallas after serving as an assistant coach for the Philadelphia 76ers. He brings a wealth of experience, having previously worked as an assistant coach for the Los Angeles Lakers and New Orleans Pelicans.
